Bird watching (Birding) from and near the “Cortijo La Joya”

Andalusia and Istanbul share the honors—as the two migration routes between Europe and Africa. The whole year is good for birding, but from autumn to spring stand out for their migration peaks. The Country side south of Antequera is green and fresh at this time. You can always find tourist-free areas, and, luckily enough, these are the more interesting sites with plenty to view.

Winter’s own attraction include wintering Waterfowl in wetlands. Many Warblers from the north travel to the south of Europe to winter, including Tjif-Tjaf and Blackcaps. Resident Raptors are joined by wintering species such as Merlins and sometimes Ospreys, while Hen Harriers are abundant. Some areas are abundant with visiting Cranes that forage on acorns from stone acorns. It is a must for bird watchers to come here in the winter time to watch the migrates.

Other birds to look out for: Egyptian, Griffon, rare Black Vultures, Eagles - Gold, Imperial, Booted, Bonelli's, the Honey Buzzard and the Pallid Harrier.  Also the Spanish Sparrow, the Crested Coot, the Trumpeter Finch.  More surely your will see: Oystercatchers, Godwitz, Azure-winged Magpies, Spoonbills, Flamingos, Plovers, Starts, Winchats, Wheatears, Warblers and Flycatchers.  The list is endless.

Delay in Renovating of the Apartment No. 3

Four pairs of Swallows decided to raise their offspring's in nests under the ceiling of the Apartment No. 3.  We waited until the young birds were ready to leave their nests.  It was a delight to watch the old birds feeding the young and later on the young birds starting to learn flying. Every evening they entertained us with their acrobatic flying only a few meters away from us. It was excited to watch them taking a few drops of water out of the pool and 'corkscrew' into the height by the sound of Nightingales singing. Here are a few photographic shots from our friends:
