In the month of August, all villages and towns in Andalusia explode with colours and music. A festival with a time span of two, three or more days is celebrated with singing, flamenco, eating, and drinking - The Feria -. Each village has it's own follow up of events. Also our small village of La Joya has its festival in the middle of the village. Singing and flamenco in the evenings and gathering to a meal and some drinks in the daytime. Jamon (Spanish ham) and spit - roasted Sprats are freely available, free of charge. Families bringing cooked specialities like meats, paella, cakes etc. to be judged for a prize and eaten at the gathering. The highlights in the afternoon and the evening are water battles (refreshing in the summer heat) and horse shows. If you are in Andalusia at this time of the year, it is a "must" to participate in one of the ferias. Here are a few impressions from the Feria in La Joya:
